Version 4.1.0 – 05/04/2025

The 4.1 version is an upgrade of the 4.0 to latest Operating System on Windows and macOS, new Apple Silicon processor and VST3 plugin format. It also contains some improvement and bug fixes.
The configuration of your 4.0 version is migrated (instruments, midi configuration) except the PC assignations (see below how to edit them quickly), hardware configuration and some local preferences (A4 locked, last volume,…).

New features
  • Universal Piper is now provided as VST2 and VST3 format. Functionalities are identical. The VST3 plugin is deployed in the standard VST3 folder. Note : VST3 plugins are considered as different plugins from the VST2 ones. You will therefore need to manually change the plugin in your existing projects if you want to switch to VST3.
  • New instruments added : one Asturian bagpipes and one Medieval Bagpipes
  • New midi chanter configurations added : Blair Chanter, WARBL, Technochanter 2G, KPipes and KCentre
  • The pitchbend range can be defined by default between 1 and 12 semi-tones.
  • The last instrument state is restored at startup in the standalone application.
  • Application can be freely resized.
  • Availability of new versions will be notified.
  • Universal Piper installer is now authenticated and attributed to Mickaël Coulon preventing security warning from Windows and macOS during installation.
Changes
  • Hardware requirement : Intel or AMD 64bit processor and Windows 10 or superior / Apple Silicon or Intel processor and macOS 10.13 or superior,
  • License : computer identification changed, you will need a new activation code => if you are a WIN/macOS registered user, you can ask for your new activation code for free.

  • The drones are muted when the drone presence is set to the minimum value
  • The midi recorder now records Universal Piper complete midi input flow instead of just the chanter played notes and associated pitchbend.

  • User configuration file location and organization changed. The user configuration is now stored in a dedicated folder that can be accessed from the PREFERENCES panel.
  • Program Change assignment are now stored in a new file up_shared_pc_list.csv. It can be edited with any text editor and while Universal Piper is running.
  • User presets (upipe_preset.PST) and MIDI configuration (upipe_config.xml) are compatible with older ipad version (except the PC assignations)
Bug fixes

New fine tuning page: gather all instrument tunings, chanter and drones, in one page
  • New “duplicate function”: you’ve tuned a bagpipe to your taste and would like to use this same tuning on another bagpipe? Easy! Select a bagpipe you want to tune, press “duplicate tuning” and select the bagpipe with the tuning you want to copy. A bit of drones fine tuning might be useful.

MIDI page: gather all settings to control Universal Piper with MIDI
  • New “automatic toggle detection” mode for all ON/OFF MIDI parameter : a short ON/OFF pulse will be interpreted as a toggle, a long ON/OFF sequence as a momentary switch
  • New MIDI controls: LA440, Glissando, delay tempo, chanter scale modification
  • New chanter stop delay following a note off reception. Allows you to ignore short silences.
  • New MIDI chanter: trino, degerpipe 2+ Baroque/Bechonnet/Medieval/Gaita/Gaita extended
