Universal Piper is a generic sampler dedicated to Bagpipe instruments.

The first instrument sampled is the GHB as it is the most known and played.

Universal Piper is Highly configurable via xml configuration files.

The characteristics of a bagpipe in the Upiper point of view are :

Then, Universal Piper is a Genuine virtual instrument; that means it can mesmerize configurations and save/recall them as xml preset files.

To respect international convention for Virtual instruments, Universal Piper assign a midi scale that correspond to the midi frequency reference of each bagpipe. For the GHB bagpipe it’s this scale:

Ab3  -  Bb4,   with a Bb3 fundamental.

To dig into this subject, I propose two articles on the matter of midi offsets and bagpipe music:

  1. Puce Midi offsets part-1

  2. Puce Midi offsets part-2

  1. -The fundamental note, which tune the whole instrument and is the natural pitch of the bagpipe.

- A set of high quality samples for each finger configuration that gives a note on a chanter.

- A set of drones samples, aligned with the fundamental note.
